Gino Bonazza · Mosaic artist

Hands and colour.
A life in art.

Gino Bonazza · Photograph from the personal archive

Originally from Friuli, Gino Bonazza trained in Spilimbergo in the mosaic tradition. In the 1960s he worked with Crovato and Odorico in Turin and Sgorlon in Milan.

From the 1970s he continued independently in his workshop in Cologno Monzese. Here he created sacred and secular mosaics, working both from designs by other artists and from his own projects.

His work spans different scales and settings, from portraits and floral compositions to large cycles for churches. Glass, gold and marble tesserae become faces, gestures, light and landscapes.

This website brings together the works and photographs preserved by the workshop: not a catalogue for new commissions, but a way to preserve and share a lifetime of work.

Cologno Monzese

A world
of colour.

The photograph preserves a moment at work: hands on the mosaic, a reference image beside it, tesserae sorted into small containers.

This is the everyday work behind even the great cycles: the bench, the materials and the time needed to give each figure its form.
